How does an industrial candle filter work?

A candle filter can be used for thickening during the production of concentrated slurry or in the clarification of a liquid. An industrial candle filter can be used for continuous processes or batch processes. In a continuous process the filter is placed inline and filtration can start. Pressure build up before the filter is an indication to change the filters.
In a batch process the filter is filled with the media to be filtered. Pressure is applied and filtrate drained. After the filtration period the filter cake can be discharged and the filtration cycle can be repeated.

What are the benefits of different candle filter types?

A candle filter is a versatile piece of industrial equipment used for various applications. Its elements can be adapted to match different industrial processes. For instance, the vessels usually have conical bottoms for polishing applications, which assists with cake discharge. However, industrial candle filters used for thickening have flat bottoms. The candles provide excellent filter elements, and the stainless-steel woven wire mesh supports the filter media. The stainless-steel mesh can withstand the pressure used to remove moisture and release the cake. Due to the materials used to make the fabric media (nylon or Teflon), the filters allow filtration of 1 to 900 microns and higher flow rates. The filter effectively removes concentrated moisture and enhances water or beer purification.
