What is an industrial rotating sieve?
Rotary sieves, also known as rotary sifters or drum sieves, are industrial process machines used to sort substances by size and separate a product into two fractions: a sieved, recovered portion and a remaining portion, which can be considered as waste or material to be further processed. Sometimes, it is possible to recover both fractions. A rotary sieve consists of a drum that is mounted at a slight inclination, cylindrical in shape, and capable of rotating around its axis. The drum's wall is perforated and forms the sieve screen itself. In some models, the inclination is adjustable to accommodate different types of materials. Some sieves are equipped with a scraping mechanism, which is useful when waste tends to stick to the drum wall. A waste press is also a common accessory for an industrial sieve machine.
The operation of an industrial rotating sieve
The material that needs to be sieved enters through one side of the drum of the industrial rotating sieve. With the help of the rotating motion, a portion is sieved through the drum wall, while the other portion remains inside. The two parts can then be easily collected separately. Typically, the material to be sieved is introduced through the top of the drum, guided by a conveying system, a pipe, or manually. The unwanted portion is collected at the bottom, and the recovered portion is collected below the drum. In other configurations, the material to be sieved enters the drum from the bottom, and a conveying system, generally spiral-shaped, lifts it up to the top. The recovered portion is discharged through the perforated drum wall, while the unwanted portion is discharged at the top. This type of configuration is mainly used when the rotary sieve is partially submerged in the liquid that is to be filtered.
