What are vacuum belt filters used for?
A vacuum belt filter is used for the filtration of liquids and dewatering of sludges. An endless filter-cloth runs on a supporting belt. Vacuum is applied to the bottom-side of the cloth to enhance dewatering on the retaining solid phase. Towards the end of the installation a wash step of the filter cake can be conducted. A scraper blade removes the solid filter-cake of the filter cloth at the end of the filter.
In this continuous process, the feed flow rate, vacuum level and speed of the belt can be adjusted to get the desired degree of dehydration. At Foeth you will find different brands and types of high-performance and efficient vacuum belt filters for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical or Food industry.
Types of Vacuum Belt Filters and Applications
Belt filters are typically constructed using continuous rubber belts or sliding metal plates. Based on this, we can distinguish two types of systems:
Tray-type filter: They use a continuously moving filter cloth on vacuum trays, which are appropriately slotted to allow the filtration process.
Rubber belt filter: The filter cloth support moves on a rubber surface, which may have grooves to facilitate the circulation of the filtrate to a main drain.
The main applications of belt filters are found in the food industry, mining, chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, and industrial waste treatment, primarily for sludge dewatering.
