What are spray dryers?
Spray dryers are convection dryers used to dry liquids. The liquid to be dried is finely atomized in a large drying chamber and gently dried by hot process air within seconds. The dried product accumulates as a fine powder or product dust. This is then often agglomerated within the process or post-agglomerated to improve product properties in terms of fluidity and ability to dip into liquids or to reduce hygroscopicity. Spray dryers are widely used in the instant food industry (milk powder, whey powder) as well as in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
