What are roll dryers?
Roll dryers are a type of continuous contact dryer. These types of dryers are typically used for concentrated solutions, suspensions, and pastes. They are mostly used in the production of potato flakes, starch modifiers, yeast, dried fruit and vegetables, fish food, and baby food. They produce a product in the form of a film, flakes, or powder.
How do roll dryers work?
A roll dryer consists of heated rollers on which the moist material is applied evenly thin. During the slow rotation of the roller, the material dries and is then scraped off with a blade. The dried material is thereby removed either as a film, flakes, or powder. Due to the low layer height, the drying process is very fast and even, so that the product can be effectively protected against overheating. Roller dryers can be designed as single-roller or two-roller dryers.
Unlike equipment using mechanical methods, such as compression or centrifugation, the cylinder dryer employs thermal energy and uses evaporation of the liquid as the drying method, achieving very low residual moisture content.
