Already in the 19th century, Robatel began its activity with the production of floating mills, steam engines, and various mechanical apparatus. The company distinguished itself particularly by designing a submarine with periscope and ballast. In the 20th century, the first automatic horizontal centrifuges were developed by the company, bringing it its first international successes. These machines were used for the production of fertilizers and synthetic ammonia in several European countries, Russia, the United States, and Japan. In 1953, Michel Robatel decided to focus part of his entrepreneurial activities on the emerging nuclear industry, particularly with the design of an armored container made of lead-coated steel for the transport of radioactive materials. In 1989, the group developed its first centrifuges for the treatment of sterile materials, which were intended for the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries.

In 1999, the company merged its centrifuge production with Rousselet. Since then, the produced centrifuges have been manufactured under the Rousselet Robatel brand. Since 2000, the name Robatel Industries has been used. Nowadays, the company is a multidisciplinary operation and acts as a nuclear systems supplier, particularly in the production of packaging for the transport and storage of radioactive materials, as well as in the design of protective materials against radioactive substances. The company operates in various areas of the nuclear industry, such as mechanical and thermal dimensioning, seismic calculations, decommissioning, studies, and maintenance.
