The beginnings of GEA Tuchenhagen GmbH

The history of the GEA Tuchenhagen brand, which is part of the GEA Group, dates back to 1931. At that time, Otto Tuchenhagen founded an engineering office for dairy technology in Kiel to dedicate himself to the modernization of production processes in dairy farms in Schleswig-Holstein. Results included machines to improve efficiency and hygiene, such as the first centrifugal milk pump, drum heaters, heat exchangers, and a foam-free centrifuge. In 1943, the company relocated its headquarters to Büchen. After World War II, Tuchenhagen developed further process solutions that mainly addressed the hygiene problems of the dairy industry at that time. This led to the creation of fully automated plants for which Tuchenhagen developed valves, pumps, and tanks, among other things. In addition to equipping dairies, the company also increasingly became active in other industries, with a focus on valves and pumps.

Acquisition by the GEA Group

In the 1970s, Hans Otto Mieth became managing director and later also owner of the company. His developments included pressure tanks for breweries, which replaced the open fermentation tanks that were commonly used at that time. The measurement and control technology also evolved as a new division of the company. With the opening of sales offices in other countries, international expansion began, and a second production site for automatic valves was established in Büchen. In 1995, Tuchenhagen became part of the GEA Group. Today, the GEA Group is one of the largest providers of process technology for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, with over 18,000 employees in 62 countries. GEA Tuchenhagen plays a role in 2 out of the 5 divisions of the group, namely Liquid & Powder Technologies and Separation & Flow Technologies.

Products of the GEA Group

Among the machines from GEA Tuchenhagen that you can buy used are machines for separating suspensions and emulsions, such as decanter centrifuges and centrifugal separators. They are used for clarification, classification, concentration, and extraction. Homogenizers are also part of the product range. They produce stable emulsions and dispersions with particle sizes down to the nanometer range under high pressure. They essentially consist of a compression block and a homogenization valve. The company also manufactures heat exchangers for cooling, heating, and pasteurization. Valves and pumps are products that are mainly associated with GEA Tuchenhagen GmbH. Hygienic and aseptic valves, which can be permanently installed in process plants and ensure high product and process safety, play an important role. Other components in this division include powder valves and locks.
